Diva, if looked up, could mean a few things. The first being delightful, invasive, vivacious and with attitude. This word at one time was used in regard to Opera singers. In today's world it simply means someone that wants to be treated like royalty, even when they are an every day Joe. The second meaning is an exaggerated sense of self inportance, extra special attention needed, or possibly special effort to maintain the beauty, style and image of a person.
There are a few people that have made it to the top, ie-spot light that have become a Diva. I will not use any names but I feel the average person will know whom I am commenting about. One that comes to mind has been in the spot light quite a bit the last few months. (I would like to add that this is my opinion and you do not have to agree.) She told her man while she was on stage that she was pregnant. I wonder now if she was ever really pregnant. She did not show any baby bump while doing her tours, nor did her pregnancy slow down her dancing abilities.
I have come to believe she is a true Diva in every sense of the word because when it was time for the baby to be born, she dished out thousands of dollars to a hospital to have total privacy. This total privacy included body guards at every exit, taping the video cameras with duct tape to prevent any pictures or videos, taking any and all phones away from the staff that was there, refusing anyone to come or go from the floor they paid for.
This last one included a man who's twins were born early and were in ICU. He was not allowed in to see his babies until this Diva left the hospital. He complained upon deaf ears of the hospital staff. They themselves were unable to help him because the real issue was with the higher ups of the hospital staff who took the money from her and her man. They had champagne and caviar brought in for a celebration of the birth of their baby. No one should be allowed to "buy" an entire hospital floor where there are other parents with babies involved.
This couple is rumored to have had a surrogate mother or even adopted this baby and didn't want it known by anyone, including the Medea. To me, anyone that could plunk down money to buy a hospital floor and not even think of the other parents that are already there .... well, they are every bit the word Diva, and not in a good way. I have since become a non-fan of them (if there is such a word). I no longer listen to their music. I would hope others would understand my concern and think the same. I do not condone sueing but in this case, I would probably do just that if I were a parent that was not allowed to see my babies.

The queen of what??
It is of no surprise to people that know me when I say I am a news junkie. I live and breathe the news. The first thing I do in the morning when I get out of bed is turn on the t.v. and listen to the news as I go about my morning. When I get home in the evenings I turn on the TV as I walk in the door; and again it is the last thing I do before going to bed. I take time to scan the internet for news to read during my day. In doing this, I am subject to many different kinds of news; some worthy of repeating and some not. If this news is worthy to me, I sometimes talk about it at my work to get the opinions of others. I usually do a follow up by checking other parts of this news out before it finds its way to this page.
Today, this news hits home with me. It is about a certain Diva that has been called the “Queen of Southern Fried Cooking.” It is also about Type 2 Diabetes, which I have had the not so wonderful pleasure of knowing for close to 5 years now. She says the rumors are true, that she has had this for 3 years now. The reason that she didn’t come forward with the news before now is not because she was afraid of fallen ratings for her show, but the fact that she has learned enough that she can share her wisdom on this disease.
She seems to think that you don’t get type 2 by eating wrong. You only get it by getting old. She also thinks that she can keep eating the way she has been, just in moderation. I have one very big problem with her idea of eating. When you look at her recipes, the first thing she almost always says is, “with a lil’ butter,” but it really means a pan full of butter. This is not only unhealthy for your diabetes, but your cholesterol. Her books and her show is all about this cooking that she does that is not healthy in the least. There are people out there that eat her foods because they like her. I feel sorry for them because they follow her and now they could be T-2.
But….now she has gone even farther. She has climbed into bed with the drug companies. I only wonder if it’s to pan her pocket since she won’t be selling her cooking as much as she once did. I realize that people all have a right to choose what they want to eat, but when it comes to life or death…..I choose healthy.

Now and Then
My granddaughters seem to think that I was never a teenager, nor can they fathom that I was ever “little”. I think I heard one say once that I was “older than dirt”. That being said, I would like to talk about the differences between when I was a child and the way things are now.
I was a child in the 1970’s. It was a much simpler time than it is now. I would walk to school and home, half the time walking slowly with a group of children. It might take half an hour to get home even if the walk was only about 6 blocks. It would start out as a group of children, talking all at once about various things. As the group passed houses children would wave bye and go inside; until, one by one, the group would end up being just a couple. My mom never worried about when and if we got home. We always did. We would do our homework, if there was any and then race outside to play. The whole neighborhood was our playground. We would race through each other’s yards, playing hide and seek and freeze tag, among other games. We would come inside only when the street lights came on. It was the signal for all kids to go home, eat dinner as a family, take a bath and head for bed.
In my grand children’s world, they cannot do any of those things. They cannot go for a walk, ride their bike around the block, play outside after dark or talk to a stranger. Children today cannot even stay overnight anymore if one of the parents (or grandparents) remarries without the fear of one of them being a molester of some sort.
I have been asked in the past, if I could change the past, what I would change. I still say nothing, but I would love to take my grand children to “my” past childhood for just one day and let them see what it is that they are missing

Our Country and the Budget
Well, it seems that our country is broke again. Our elected officials are locking heads about the raising of the debt ceiling. Mr. President seems to think that the SS checks would be the first to go if the new budget isn't met. This would mean that many of the people that depend on this money would have to go without. Many of these people paid into SS for years only to be told now by our very government that they cannot have it. They will have to go without food, medicine, and some will become homeless. For many, this is the only income they have. I would like to know why the government that we elected into office cannot pay the bills with the money they already have budgeted. Dear Mr. President, would you be willing to go without your paycheck? Or the money it takes to run the White House so you (our elected leader) can live there? What if, instead of asking the poor to become even more poor....what if "we" the people vote on how to fix the already damaged budget? I vote to make our elected officials pay for their own medical like we have to. I vote that when it comes to retirement....all elected officials should have to "save" their money just like we do. I vote that the next time Congress or the Senate votes on a pay raise for themselves that we the people get to vote also. Why is it the scare always has to do with SS, Medicare, & our Soldiers Pay? I think it is high time to let these elected officials know that we the people are tired of catering to them like they are so much better than us. They are, after all, there because we wanted them there. Maybe we should remind them that they CAN and WILL be voted out just as easy as they were voted in.....If you agree with this then pass it on.....we need to stop the insanity and rebuild our country.....
